Reuben Bonk, who played Steven Sparrow in his Christmas program, is pictured with Dave. Reuben’s favorite song that Dave sings is “Of the Father’s Love Begotten,” and he was thrilled that Dave was able to sing it at his program. The Bonks are friends of ours from way back and we love them dearly. We spent the Sunday before Christmas with them in Embarrass , Minnesota. ~ Sabra
Speaking of favorite songs, I find it wonderfully humbling and just like living with God to find that, after I have worked to pour into my songs rich, deep theological meaning and profundity (overselling, yes, I know), someone tells me: “We love your album, especially ‘The 10 Commandments’ or ‘Fruit Fly’,” which of course are the comic relief tunes. It’s like preaching a sermon you just know has mined the deepest reaches of the Gospel - your finest homiletical moment - and one of your listeners says, “I loved that joke you told!” Smiling at this point is an act of confession, considering that confession is simply saying back to God what He has said to us. ~ Dave
